Say something in Japanese. We'll tell you how it sounded.

Pick a phrase, hear a native speaker say it, then say it yourself. You get a real pronunciation score in about ten seconds — no account, no card, no email.

Say this out loud

わたしはトムです。

watashi wa Tomu desu.

I am Tom.

Listen first, then tap the mic and say it. Up to 10 seconds.

Three taps, one honest answer

Hear it

A native Japanese recording, not a robot voice. Play it as many times as you like.

Say it

Tap the mic and say the same phrase back. One short phrase is all it takes — 10 seconds is plenty.

See the score

A real score out of 100, a word-by-word breakdown, and the honest transcript of what was heard.

We show you the transcript. Most pronunciation demos echo your target phrase back at you and colour it green. This one prints what the recogniser actually heard — so when the score is low, you can see why.

Why speaking Japanese out loud is the whole game

Reading Japanese and recognising Japanese are not the same skill as producing it. The moment you have to make the sounds yourself — in real time, with someone waiting — is the moment most learners freeze. That moment is the only one worth practising, and it is the one flashcard apps never give you.

AvalaVoice is built around it: real spoken conversations with an AI tutor that listens, replies in Japanese, and coaches your pronunciation in your own native language. This page is the smallest possible taste of that — one phrase, one score, no account.

Questions

Do I need an account to try Japanese pronunciation?

No. This page is free and needs no sign-up, no email and no card. Pick a phrase, allow your microphone, and you get a score straight away.

How is the Japanese pronunciation score worked out?

Your recording is compared against the phrase you chose using the same speech-assessment engines that power the paid lessons. You get an overall score out of 100, a per-word breakdown, and the raw transcript of what was actually recognised — including when that is not what you meant to say.

Is my recording stored?

Your clip is sent once to a speech-assessment service to be scored, and it isn't saved to an account here — on this page you don't have one. The free demo is capped per visitor and per day, which is why regular practice needs a (still free) account.

What happens after the free try?

A free AvalaVoice account gives you five minutes of real spoken Japanese every day with an AI tutor that talks back, corrects your pronunciation and remembers where you left off.
