What's your Ukrainian level?

Ten quick questions with native audio to estimate your CEFR level — no sign-up to try. Takes about two minutes.

1/10

What does this Ukrainian word mean?

Привіт

prih-VEET

Questions are in Ukrainian Cyrillic, which is not the Russian alphabet: і, ї, є and ґ are all here, and no question is answerable by falling back on a Russian cognate.

What each level means in Ukrainian

The CEFR bands are the same everywhere. What sits inside them is not — A2 in Ukrainian asks for things A2 in another language never mentions. Here is what your result actually describes.

A1
Complete beginner

You read Ukrainian Cyrillic — і, ї, є and ґ included — handle greetings and numbers, and can say who you are. Case endings are visible and not yet predictable.

A2
Elementary

Accusative, genitive and prepositional are separable in your head, the past tense agrees for gender, and you can describe your day and your family in it.

B1
Intermediate

The vocative comes out naturally when you address someone, aspect pairs are chosen on purpose, and you can follow the news read at normal broadcast speed.

The way Ukrainian learners misread their own level

Russian speakers score high on this test from overlap alone. If you have Russian, treat a strong result as a head start rather than as evidence of Ukrainian proficiency.

Worth remembering either way: a multiple-choice test measures recognition. Speaking is a different muscle, and it is the one that decides whether a conversation happens.

After the test

Knowing your level is the easy part — improving it means speaking. AvalaVoice pairs you with an AI tutor that holds real Ukrainian conversations, corrects your pronunciation in your own language, and adapts to exactly where you are. Free to start, five minutes a day.
